Close Down California's Nukes?
In the ongoing wake of Fukushima, growing numbers of Californians are beginning to seriously question the wisdom of continuing to let private utilities operate a total of five reactors all located in earthquake and tsunami zones - just like those at Fukushima - at Diablo Canyon and San Onofre.

On Oct. 11, 2011 a forum on the issue was held in San Clemente, the town closest to San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS), operated by Southern California Edison.

In a program co-organized by San Clemente Greens/SanOnofreSafety.org(SOS), members of the City Council and a capacity crowd of citizens listened to and questioned a list of speakers including Helen Caldicott and Arnie Gunderson (on live video feed).

The final speaker was Danial Hirsch of CommitteeToBridgeTheGap.org, a professor at UCLA.

Days later the City Council voted to approve a staff report urging consideration of the many safety issues which remain unaddressed regarding SONGS and public safety.

US congresswoman Cynthia McKinney has come out and blamed the pro-Israel Lobby in America (AIPAC, ADL, ZOA, etc) for ruining her political career. While in congress she refused to sign the pro-Israel pledge and took a pro-Palestinian stance. Because of this, McKinney said “war was declared” on her by the Jewish lobby. In 2009 she told TIU's Ognir that “more than 99% of Congress work for Pro Zionist Israeli interests.”

@technobotman Wind energy is a joke. Proper insulation of buildings could cut power consumption in half. I have reduced my energy use to 1/4 of what it was 10 years ago by replacing all the windows in my house(26 windows and two doors and two storm doors). Ceramic paint is next on the list and that is going to cut heating cost by 20%. That is the way to create jobs.

Build solar / wind energy collector cities. Make them international with a single purpose to provide electricity; not make bunch of people wealthy.. Wouldn't that create lots of jobs? We could also place huge solar collector cells on every roof, using mesh networking setup. Humanity needs some serious re-organization. Less polluting and fighting, more research and responsible development!
