@dolphinsdive Was his sleep apnea caused by his cleft lip and palate? I have a bilateral cleft lip and palate and have been having some severe sleeping problems and would like to know.

they should (while the kids still young) cut open his nostril so he can breath without squeking.

Hello.. I have not read every single post here so forgive me if this question has already been answered. Does he qualify for CPAP? My daughter is has also had numerous cranio facial reconstructive surgeries and we also considered the mid-face foward at one point, but she uses the CPAP for now and it has made 100% difference! She used to sleep exactly like THAT! She also had her tonsils out but not the adnoids sue to bone structure. Did he have the face foward done yet?

I should update. My son had his palate closed after having his tonsils removed. His breathing did temp improve, but he is again having difficulty. Sleep study last week and cardiology referral from his pulmunologist. Plastic surgeon is referring him to a more experience craniofacial team for some major surgery to bring his midface forward which will open his airway. He is on medication for sinus congestion, but it is very complex. Just the slightest change causes him major problems.

He has had overnight sleep studys and seen many specialist. CPAP is not an option for him at 2 years old. Tonsils and adenoids are not an issue with his palate wide open and never having any infections or swelling... Doctors also strongly recommend children with cleft palate keep their adenoids for speech reason. Top recommendation at this point is a temp trach.

I wonder if opening up his right nostril might help with the sleep apnea

I pushed hard for his nostril to be opened, but that too is not an option. Any work to his nose will be delayed until his face develops more. Doing something now would cause more scar tissue and more problems for him long term.

Yikes
Poor little guy.
They thought I had it too because I have a cleft lip and palate.
It's very hard to have a cleft lip and palate.
Very hard.
GOD BLESS
