hehe.. I figured it out pretty fast ;) Easy but nice trick, ofcourse it needs some preperations :)

It is an variation on an old bar trick. The method is quite versatile though.

It is more or less impromptu as you might have concluded.

The more skilled the audience is, the easier it is to fool them. This is a childrens magic box trick. That makes it amazingly hard to see through.

Compare to the Pen&Teller rope release at TAM3. Same thing. Easy as cake, but the more you know of magic, the harder to see through.

Im at a complete loss at how you do it, haha. I can usually get some sort of idea at how people do their magic tricks on youtube, but this one pretty much has me fooled ~_~

I have an alternative ending to this where I remove the inner casing with matches and by a wave vanish the matches.
