After a lengthy search, we found a worthy candidate for the Expert Overhaul tucked back in the deep recesses of a barn just outside Portland, Oregon. The frame was straight, no visible corrosion and with a blast of a little starting fluid down the 4 barrel carb, the old 345 roared to life. To get a complete picture, view our video walk-around where we describe this unique Scout and explain why we chose it.

  • Uhhh-The 152-4,196-4,V-266,V-304,V-345,&V-392engines designsWereTakenFromDieselBlueprintsAndWereClassified industrial/commercial which have to have a rating of 500K or more. These engines were cast with very high nickel content, and had direct gear drive cam with ALL forged internals. My first scout was a 1 owner mail carrier's truck with a 345/auto with 472K on it and it STILL ran beautifully. They are also the ONLY engine to survive a 1000 hour full throttle test done byIHCatEnginePlant.

  • Hey! Scouts with the 345 in '74 & '75 were topped with a 4 barrel but only for California. My father had one. A '74 I have a '78 that was a California Scout and it has a Thermo-Quad 4 barrel.
