Unfortunately, these monks have not kept much of their ancient musical heritage, viz. Gregorian Chant in Latin. One hopes that the liturgy in the vernacular approximates the beauty of the Latin Chant enough to appeal to the hearts of the young!

I find so many of these comments just plain silly...You either decide to live the monastic life or not...for whatever time period. I hear so much confusion in some of these posts...so much gulit! It's not needed!!!

@kennyinliverpool The Catholic Church has nothing against homosexual people. It just asks that they live accordingly in chastity. As a monk, you are called to poverty, chastity, and obedience anyway. I would suggest getting in contact with a local monastery, and attending a discernment retreat, or getting into contact with monks and talking about it.

This is a great video, but I find myself somewhat torn concerning my future. Part of me wants to become a Diocesan Priest, and work at a church or cathedral. But then another part of me wants to become a Benedictine Monk and live at a monastery. If anyone reads this please pray for me so that I can realize where God wants to lead me.

@FaithandTradition You might want to go to a monastic discernment retreat. They are having one at Mt. Angel soon and have them throughout the year. They are very informative and give you a chance to talk with other monks about how they knew they were called to this life. God bless

do monks get vacations? I worry that that anybody would just burn out after a while but then again if this is a calling then that may not happen...still i wonder
