I need some help from some of my regular "viewers" (who seem so much more knowledgable than me!!) on this one.
I found it in among my old 78's purchased in the 1950's, and I have only limited information about it. For example, all I know of Santo Pecora is that his real name was Santo Joseph Pecoraro and that he played, casually, with such musicians as Leon Roppolo, the New Orleans Rhythm Kings, Sharky Bonano, Wingy Manone and Lu Watters.
Apart from the vocalist, Riley Scott, I do not know the make-up of his "Back Room Boys" on this recording -which is one of the 1947 Super Rhythm-Style Series issued in The U.K. on the Parlophone label.
If anyone can tell me where, when and with whom he made this recording, I would be most grateful.

  • Fine to hear a great musician like Shorty Sherock again.

  • stylin

  • I had the pleasure of working with Frank Federico many times. As a matter of fact ,I took his daughter to her Senior prom.

Frank was very close friends with a mpost gracious gentleman by the name of Mel Bay who very fortunately p8ulled me and my band from between a rock and a hard place.

Working with Frank was one of the most

pleasant memories I have of my 50+ years in music.

  • Jimmy Niehues was a sax player in my dads band,

  • I recently discovered a Santo and the New Orleans Rhythm Kings album in my collection that is autographed by Santo..It says "In memory of the Great Lester Bouchom, The Best Always Santo Pecora" Its also signed by a Jimmy Niehues". Does anyone know who Niehues was?

  • i talked to johnny dedroit once--the trumpet guy/bandleader--and i can just barely remember him describing the first time he met pecora in 1923. said he was wearing a very loud red silk shirt--very italian guy. you should really contact bruce raeburn or lynn abbott at the william ranson hogan jazz archive at tulane in new orleans. everyone down there would know all about him--probably there are even interviews--there are for everyone else, including frank fedrerico, the guitar player.

  • Pecora first recorded in New Orleans with the New Orleans Rhythm Kings in 1925-- great records! he was active in New Orleans to about the start of the 1980s.

Clarinetist Meyer Weinberg also went by the name "Gene Meyer" he was a fellow New Orleanian. I believe the only one of the band still alive is guitarist Frank Federico (note spelling; many discographies give his last name an extra "r").

  • Can't help you but it's a terrific recording.Thanks very much.
