Burton "Lucky Dog" Richardson demonstrates how to apply the snake disarm in live stick fighting through both instruction and fight footage.

Many people claim that it is impossible to perform disarms in actual fighting. They say that the disarms of the Filipino Martial Arts only work against a cooperative opponent. But, I have achieved many live disarms in stickfighting tournaments and in hard sparring at full speed and resistnce. The trick is to get into position where the opponent's stick slows enough that you can apply the disarm. This requires timing which can only be achieved through sparring! I want to include my sincere thanks to all my teachers, but especially to my guide since 1980 Tuhon Dan Inosanto. He is the most knowledgeable martial artist in the world, and he is incredibly generous with that knowledge which has taken a lifetime to garner. Maraming Salamat Po Tuhon!

  • Awesome video sir..

  • @Lordvon777 Thank you. I hope you can put it to good use!

  • Adding in 10 seconds of seeing it done in live sparring against a fully resisting opponent makes this video ten times better. Great addition, I wish all technique demonstrators would do this.

  • @nHautamaki I agree. If the technique is functional, it shouldn't be too hard to get some video of it pulled off in sparring. The proof is in the sparring!

  • pressed wong thumbs up button but feeling a little meh

  • @xtattertatterx A motto of the Dog Brothers is "Higher consciousness through harder contact." So true.

  • @BurtonRichardson heh, I just realized you are a dog brother. No wonder. Props to you and yours.

  • @xtattertatterx I agree with you. Good instruction just cuts down the time needed for the learning curve. Good job getting real experience.

  • I have been stick fighting for 14 years. I am very happy to see your instructional videos. The Zulu comparison surprised me, as my own style uses the same tricks outlined in your video. I have used this disarm as well. Interestingly, I was never taught how to stick fight. I just sparred until I learned it, and these same techniques popped up. This just goes to show that good instructions are based on experience and vice versa.
