Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Beta - Hidden Palace Zone Acts 1 and 2

This is the real Hidden Palace Zone from Sonic the Hedgehog 2, or at least the most complete, official version that has ever existed. The "Long Version" ROMs are hacker-edited and added onto; this is not. As you can see, I ran out of places to go to, as a sign had not been added, and that hill is impossible to climb.

As for the music, yes, that really is what's there. It's the Mystic Cave 2-Player song, found in the retail release of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. The theme commonly associated with this level cannot be found in the beta version at all.

Hidden Palace Zone can indeed be accessed in a regular retail version using a Game Genie code, but you won't find anything really resembling the contents of this video. Instead, you'll be greeted by a garbled blue mess. This is due to the fact that the tiles and sprites associated with the level were removed. It's pretty hard on the eyes; if you like, I can upload a video of that as well.

I apologize for the section in the middle where I seem rather nervous to jump off of that little cliff. But I later demonstrate that if I had messed up there, I would have just died. And it's difficult to get that jump just right, so...

I also apologize for the synch issues and the loud audio. I plan on redoing this video in debug mode, and in higher quality, so you can see more of the level.

Sorry about that - I'd make another video and upload it, because I'll freely admit that the quality on this is downright painful, but a grad school application doesn't put itself together. There's something wrong with this, another video showed the jump you were 'cautious' about had stuff underneath to stop you dying, also the emerald could be broken and there was a tunnel underneath! search: 'sonic the hedgehog 2 deleted levels'

When the coins went to 100, it probably took a bit from the sound files causing that noise.....just my guess.....it happens when developing games.....

This bit was taken from an interveiw. This was only a 1 act level from the start. You see originally once the player got all 7 chaos emeralds you would be sent here. If you would have completed it you would have been given the ability to become super sonic. of course it was scraped and you now get the ability automaticaly. the "master emeralds" you see were infact just destructable objects.
