I remember arriving at the camp and were told that section C that was being controlled by the alaskan team got out of control. Today they still use same mothods of clearing out brush trying to dig below the fireline. Best time to fight teh fire was at night where you can see the glowing burning embers. My camera melted in that fire in my asbestos backpack. We wore regular military boots. Wish they had something better. Perhaps today they do.
I faught that fire in 1988 I was 18 years old on a catagory one engine company for the US Forest Service Fire Division off of Angeles National Forest sent to Yellowstone on a strike team man I've been a Firefighter since and that was something I'll never forget

The 1988 yellow stone fire had 6 causes.
1. lazy campers.
2. lightning strikes
3. a controlled back burn got out of control........... forgot what the other 3 causes were. been so long ago.
