Didn't this sweetheart Delta Queen boat come to Pittsburgh PA for the Regatta? I am sure she did. Are you kidding me they are shutting this down? I may be a Northern Yankee but I will be damned if such a fine Southern Bell goes down this wrong path of not being needed. May the South rise up and help the Delta Queen take her rightful place again!

It is sad how much of this song came to pass. Soon she will have an owner who cares about her and will be able to present at congress why she is and has been safe for 84 continuous years and sail again.

@caperspice4213 I decked for John Dugger in 2008 in Memphis just before the decision was made to lay up the boats.Wish I could have made that last run with the boat. She was the first fuel job I did after becoming a licensed tankerman in 1995 in Memphis and the first fuel job I did when I started working for a boat store in Paducah Ky in 1998.

I'll be happy when Oberstar is in a nursing home and the Queen returns to the rivers.

Then how could you do it on the DQ's calliope?

We'd get so excited when the Delta Queen was going by (Lawrenceburg, IN). Mom would take us down to the river to watch. One time it docked in Aurora, IN and my little brother and I got to meet Grandpa Walton and get his autograph. He just say down on the grass and relaxed and he became surrounded by kids.
I'll miss the Delta Queen.
0:24 what boat was that in the foreground?

The M/V Twilight, built by Capt. Dennis Trone as the "sister" boat to the Str. Julia Belle Swain. She is prop driven but has the looks and lines of a small Mississippi River packet steamer.

Thanks Jon for a great song but it is very hard to listen to because it just may come true. Too sad to think that the Delta Queen will no longer run.

It was even harder to write. In the end, I couldn't perform it because I just couldn't do justice to her on piano. Fortunately, Lee was kind enough to record it for me. In his able hands the song comes alive. He has a knack for capturing the essence of what she really means to all of us river folks.
