  • what year was this?

  • @nikehike: 1996 I believe.

  • When was this recorded originally?

  • @Arvedui01: There's one big Christopher Tolkien interview that was recorded in 1996 when The Peoples of Middle-earth was published, and all the bits and pieces that can be seen in documentaries come from that source.

  • What is he reading out of?

  • He is probably reading out The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien.

  • Tolkien made the world, his son organised it.

Without Christopher we wouldn't have the Silmarillion or the Children of Hurin. He is to almost as respected as his father.

  • awesome i got all chirstophers books aswell as his farthers

  • The Children of Hurin were completely (or something around 95%) devised of his father's writings. So I'm not sure what you're alluding to other than him being evidently a fascinating scholar.

  • Perhaps we underestimate his ability as a writer. In fact, one cannot be an editor without being primarily a writer. It can even be said that his latest work, The Children of Hurin, does in fact rival the Lord of the Rings in style and scope. Perhaps he is simply wise enough to use the wealth of his father's dream world as a plane to explore his own.

  • He has the good sense to realize that his efforts are more valuable in editing his farther's work than in completing it, unlike Brian Herbert, who churns out one Dune travesty after another.
