Ge'an is a village within Lecong Town, Shunde District, Foshan City, Guangdong Province. We are visiting our ancestral home and I'm with my French cousin Olivier (and his buddy) and our HK oncle Chi Tong.
Pronounced "Got'ngon" in Cantonese, this is the second time that I visit my ancestral vilage. The first time was in 2005 (http://commeleschinois.ca/2008/09/02/ge-an-my-ancestral-village-in-guangdong/). After this time, I could probably get there by public transport, especially with the metro line being built between Guangzhou and Foshan (go to Lecong by intercity bus, then pick the 345 from there).
The house was built during the first decade of the 1900s, deduced my uncle. It was built by my great-grandfather, so the paternal grand-father of my father, to be precise in Chinese filial nomenclature (我爺爺的爸爸). Incidentally, my other grandparents also come from the cities south of Guangzhou, even if they emigrated to (or were born in) very different place in the world.
(Yes, I'm doing it in trilingual, Justin Trudeau-style.)
... et Justin Trudeau parle 3 langues?!??
