The Ballad of Curtis Loew is one of my favorite Lynyrd Skynyrd songs of all time. The story in the song reminds me of a country store in the late 1970s, near Grand Cane, Louisiana, that we used to stop at in the summertime when we were hauling hay. There were always a few old black men hanging around playing guitars, harmonicas, and singing in the Louisiana summertime heat, under the shade of the stores awning. This is one of the hardest songs to correctly cover without a full band behind you. My version is more of a country version and is nowhere near the original, but it came out OK. I recorded and mixed 5 tracks on my Tascam DP-004 multi-track recorder. One acoustic track using my Fender 140SCE thru an Acoustic AG30 amp, a lead guitar track using a Squier Vintage Modified Thinline Telecaster thru a Line 6 Spider III 75, a bass track using my Squier P Bass thru a GK Backline 110, a drum track on an Alesis SR-16, and a vocal track using a Shure SM-58 thru an original Peavey MP-4 I bought in 1979. The video of the scratch track is laid over the final mixed audio track, its not perfect, but itll do. Thanks for watching.

  • Very well done! I love this song. My first job out of high school was in commercial construction and everybody nicknamed me Curtis Loew (my first name is Curtis). They told me it was a song by Lynard Skynard and I looked it up and loved the song.

  • @321harold - It's a great song, and one of my all time Skynyrd Favorites!
