Many thanks to fishmouseface for his Romaji and translations (from comments section of the above link)

shiroi sakamichi ga sora made tsuzuiteita (the white sloping road continued into the sky)
yurayura kagerou ga ano ko wo tsutsumu (flickering heat haze envelops the child)
daremo kizukazu tada hitori (nobody noticing, all alone)
ano ko wa nobotteiku (that child keeps ascending)
nani mo osorenai (she fears nothing)
soshite maiagaru (and then she soars)

sora ni akogarete (longing for the sky)
sora wo kaketeyuku (she soars across the sky)
ano ko no inochi wa hikoukigumo (that child's life is a contrail)

takai ano mado de (from that high window)
ano ko wa shinu mae mo (before she died, was that child also)
sora wo miteita no (looking at the sky)
ima wa wakaranai (now we'll never understand)
hoka no hito ni wa wakaranai (no one else will ever understand)

amari ni mo wakasugita to (she was far too young)
tada omou dake (is all they think)
keredo shiawase (but she's happy)

sora ni akogarete (longing for the sky)
sora wo kaketeyuku (she soars across the sky)
ano ko no inochi wa hikoukigumo (that child's life is a contrail)

sora ni akogarete (longing for the sky)
sora wo kaketeyuku (she soars across the sky)
ano ko no inochi wa hikoukigumo (that child's life is a contrail)

  • Thank you so much for the translation! Now that I know what she's saying, this video's even more touching. :3

  • @WoofMichelle

The lyrics add a higher level of understanding to this video, they let us know why the original creator chose this song and how it fits in with the themes of Yume Nikki.

Its almost as if the song was made for Yume Nikki despite the fact that it came out in 1973...

  • The lyrics made me want to cry even more... It's strange how something so ominous can spark such an explosion of inspiration and creativity in people

Why am I crying at such a predictable...typical...cutesy...wonderful...beautiful video? This...this is wonderful no matter what kind of fan you are. Thank you for these lyrics.
