the antenna on this radio is pretty good, i was going to buy a diamond, but them i made a 130 mile qso from a mountian with the stock antenna. its the Battries on this radio that are a total joke, not to mention the block on 900 MHZ ham band recieve!!

@kc7fys perhaps your juvenile ? Only a juvenile would post such a comment. I am personally glad that he did the test.

Great test, I've been curious too see how it stands up to being submersed like the label says it can be.

Heya, Not really cause its claimed to be able to take a 3 foot depth for xxx minutes..
and if it failed the test it would have been replaced by the MFR under there MFR Warranty..
but ya it would be a fight. (untill slaming the video in there face saying look its 1.5 foot for under xx minutes etc
but you have to do these tests.... if your buying a product for a a feature you should test it before it becomes a issue in the field.
the radio is more of a E-Com Device in disasters

whoa, why on earth would you feel the need to grab it by the antenna and shake it around like you did? You do know that it's only soldered on to the board right? That could very well be the reason you were having problems with it.

because as much as that is a crapy ruber duck it can withstand that kind of abuse.
also that connector yes it is solerded but it is also firmly Mechanicly mounted to the Radio Case. so the only damage that can happen to the Board is if the Connector where to sheer off wich is actully hard to do.. (the connectors are pretty strong. More than you may think..
I dont abuse my gear. any thing i do is within its tollorances.
not cause of my issues

Good test, but there's also something kind of juvenile about this whole thing.
But then again, if you actually want to test it, I can see doing this. Still... weird.

Yes is kinda childish to dunk it in a way but any thing you may use in real world situation needs to be fully tested before any event to ensure you can do what you expected to.
I test my EPIRB quite often to ensure its operation, and test/use other tools to ensure there operation.
You should test any feature in the device you intend to use.
and since this is a Ham Radio it will be 100% needed in any Disaster that can include Water and thus the test was not able to be skipped.
