Kyalami 1977: South African Grand Prix. In short - marshall crossed the track to assist Tom's team mate, Renzo Zorzi. His car appeared to be on fire (unfounded). Tom was racing past the pitlane and as he came over the slight rise, he struck Frederik Jansen van Vuuren. The fire extinguisher that the marshall was carrying hit Tom - both were mercifully killed instantly.
