Excellent dialogue between psychology and philosophy. I love it stef, Knowledge of self meets the pursuit of truth. We need greater dialogues between philosophers and psychologists. Philosophy needs to be closer to psychology then science because knowledge of self is the ultimate knowledge.

I like the discussion of incompetent people having children in poor/war torn countries. Life is not worth it in most of the world so why have a child and doom them to abuse and misery. It makes no sense.

I get really frustrated when I get negative feedback but no arguments. I cannot learn nothing from a thumb down :(

I would suggest you to read a lot about humanist psychology.

The education we all received make us think in terms of "a outside power" which controls us (we have internalised it) instead of thinking of "inside motivation and desires" which make us well-ajusted and happy.

Don't try to be perfect, try to listen to you and especially to the little child inside you who had no rights to have desires, no rights to exist.

Cheers

Happy people never become abusers.

We all are a balance of good and bad things, stop try to look nice like if your parents were still here blaming you, it won't make you happy.

Try to be well-ajusted, you'll be happy and people who are happy are the ones who make other people happy.

For Daniel:

Wanting to be perfect it's just continue the abuse on you.. but yourself..

Abused in the name of imperfection... by people who can not stand they own imperfection and try to repair it through their children.

Wanting to be perfect is impossible because you are a human being.. you'll be frustrated.. and people who are frustrated are the ones who become abusers.. you can control it but it won't make you happy.

I think the aim of life is not being perfect but being happy.

I liked your comments marienkaefer:)
Perfection is term similar to god. You end up never being "good enough", sort of self damaging behaviour which would affect children a lot (in a negative way)

Man. I've never heard such a frank and honest discussion about raising children and our reasons for doing so. It is strange how it is a taboo subject, particularly when those of us who have not propegated attempt to approach the subject with those ethat have. I have come to MANY of the same conclusions as Daniel, but I have to admit, hearing him say some of it made me uncomfortable...which is a good thing!

..."Breeding laterally." I like it.

Stefan:
"...if smart, wise and virtuous people don't breed...";
Plato would agree that these "golden souls" should be enumerated and arranged in a breeding order that best serves the state.

Daniel:
"Children should be raised in environments where theres...enough money", "those countries...where people are having tons and tons of kids...thats criminal" YIKES!!!

I hope we can all agree that wisdom, intelligence and virtue can arise and persist in anyone regardless of parentage or wealth.
