Despicable, yes! But unfortunately, not really shocking, because when the U.S. launched it's war, to establish the border in the 1st place, a popular recreation of the soldiers was to desecrate churches & brutalize priests & nuns. Also, the famous San Patricio Battalion was created when Irish, German & other Catholic US soldiers had their fill of anti-Catholicism, that they & the Mexican were suffering, & they joined the Mexican Army!
