An Amiga A1200 booting in seconds

With a flash hard drive and a 40MHz 68030 accelerator, OS 3.1 boots in 2 or 3 seconds. It will be a lot slower when I put OS 3.9 on it, but I wanted to show how much faster an A1200 is in this configuration.

is it easy to get an 68040 in there? Any benefits? Can you still buy these CPUs new? what about the PPC chips? Keep posting!

@russhurley The 68040 is a faster chip but it does produce more heat. The 68060 is the coolest solution but is the least compatible with the 68020 targeted software. PPC accelerators are very expensive to buy now with people wanting to run OS4.x on their A1200, but they are still on eBay/Amibay from time to time. More Amiga videos will follow!

This is an Amiga my friend, not a PC. But technically there is no software that can speed up a PC, but can optimise your existing installation, but look out there are lots of scam software on offer that does anything but speed up the computer!

tbh I don't see the point in anything higher than 3.1

3.1 +mui+classact+AHI = runs EVERYTHING and is a million times faster.

I think you could be right actually. I have found OS3.9 to be a dog compared with 3.1 with no apparent advantage!

@a120068020 There is an advantage to OS 3.9, one that you might not have a reason to care about. Namely, OS 3.9 has IDE CDROM drivers and CDFS built into it. My A1200 has a CDROM drive and there's no other option for getting the CDROM running. Well there is, I have an old shareware CDFS that I could use but guess who hasn't sold licenses to their stuff in nearly 15 years.

i'm running an A1200 with 060@50Mhz +16Mb ram, and i've been itching to get 3.9 on there... it looks so clean and easy on the eye! but is it seriously so bloated that it's not as snappy as 3.1? what about 3.5? or AmigaSYS for that matter? appreciate any advice. oh, and today I ordered a 4gb CF IDE card from amikit ;) now trying to find a slot loading cd drive to add internally with a bit of case modding :)

really impressive! I just can't get my cf card going, even after installing 3.1 roms. Anyway, even with a normal hard drive an amiga's super-fast. I think even booting from floppies WB is faster than windows :)
