VCIdol is back.The Vankleek Hill Collegiate Institute music department again hosted its Idol competition.
Music department head Kathleen Fraser-Collins said many talented students showed up for auditions during the past several weeks and the finalists have now been chosen.
The finalists performed for an expert panel of judges and the community on March 12 in the VCI gym.
The judges selected the top six performances and the audience voted for the top three.
Finalists are: Melody Sabourin, Gabriele Fleury-Jette, Shayna Charette, Michele Babbage-Morin, Andrea Turpin, Jade Mercier, Samantha Whittley, Hannah Wilkes, Zadia Larouche, Vivienne Walz, Corey Berthiaume, Will Laurin, Craig LeRoy, Michael Simpkin, Paul Soupez and Josef Rodger.
Former VCIdol winner Pete Paquette hosted the evening. Judges for the event were Louise Sproule, Terry Gillespie and Phil Arber. Michele Babbage-Morin walked away with first prize for her rendition of Etta James signature tune: At Last. Placing second was Shayna Charette, for her performance of White Horse. Placing third was a band featuring Vivienne Walz doing vocals, Corey Berthiaume on guitar, Josef Rodger playing piano and Will Laurin on drums.
