We flew into Delhi from Melbourne via Bangkok for a rude and muddy awakening. Our first hotel, The Hotel Vishal was touted by the Lonely Planet as being a 'sound choice'. The Shelton was what we dubbed a 'cross between the Sheraton and the Hilton'. It was certainly a room with a view.

  • This was kind of like the blind leading the blind....don't blame lonely planets . What was the Mosque in the background and where were you?

  • Pkr, what exactly do you mean by 'don't blame lonely planets'? We arrived in Paharganj, Delhi in the middle of the night and checked in to an exceedingly seedy hotel. The footage towards the end of the video is of a market in Old Delhi, and the mosque in the background is the Jama Masjid, India's largest. In terms of the blind leading the blind, finding a decent hotel in paharganj and navigating the chaotic, narrow streets of Old Delhi can, I admit, be a challenge - but therein lies the fun.

  • Great video :) great experience - I have just remembered mine :)

  • you guys dont have line of credit? staying in a dirt cheap motel.

  • @2005convenant: Exactly my point. You can stay in top hotels and still experience India.

  • 1.1 billion ppl

  • Foreigners should stick to staying at the Oberoi Intercontinental or the Radisson or something like that....in India you get what you pay for. I can understand you want to experience "the real India"...but you can do that with a guided tour and still sleep in a nice bed and have a clean bathroom. I am an Indian when I go back, I stay with family or I stay at a 5 star.
