  • Incredible, fantastic film - completely agree - very underrated. If you are looking for a film with a great, intriguing plot, fantastic play and ideally matched, great music - you're at home.

  • Like a dark cloud circling ominously closer before it actually strikes. It's amazing how much turbulent power those violins can convey. Thanks, Mr. hoppy bunny!

  • @rr7firefly: I've never seen THE SHOES OF THE FISHERMAN, believe it or not, but I would seek it out just for the North score alone. His greatest achivements, JIMO, lie somewhere between the great scores for CLEOPATRA and one of my all-time faves, THE BAD SEED...

  • @Survivor2002 I'm glad that you made those references. You are right on about the musical precedents. It should provide the intellectually curious with a solid lead to other interesting film music. I immediately think of "Shoes of the Fisherman," where North captured the high stakes drama at the Vatican.

  • Anthony Minghella (R.I.P.) couldn't have asked for a better composer for RIPLEY than Yared, who sublimely mixes quotes here from both Bernard Herrmann and Alex North to create a piece that is completely unique unto itself, and fits Matt Damon's desperate sociopath to a 'T'.

  • @Heliope1 Gabriel Yared composed this.

  • Great song to wake up to in the morning! hah

  • Do you know who is the author of the original piece used in this track ? I once heard it in the church. Please, it's very important for me.

  • MAGNIFICENT film and soundtrack.

  • The song to which you are referring is a bass/baritone aria from the "St. Matthew Passion" by Johann Sebastian Bach. The (original) German text is partly "Mache dich, mein Herze rein, ich will Jesum selbst begrabben..." --or-- "Make thee, my heart clean, that I may my Jesus bury..."

  • this song picks up the emotional disturbance, insecure yet narcissistic world that is tom ripley!
