Environmental Crimes Trial Underway Against W.R. Grace for Widespread Asbestos Exposure in Montana Town

Government prosecutors called their final witness on Monday in their case against W.R. Grace and Company. The firm and five former executives are charged with knowingly exposing their workers and the public to vermiculite ore contaminated with asbestos from the companys mine in Libby, Montana. The government has called it the nations biggest environmental disaster. Hundreds died as a result. W.R. Grace knew from the time it bought the mine in 1963 why the people in Libby were dying. But for the thirty years it owned the mine, the company did not stop it. We speak with two reporters covering the story. [includes rush transcript]

And for those who are not aware of the final injustice & corruption; every one of the

defendants were found not guilty. Congratulations Judge Molloy for helping the defense to suppress around 75% of the prosecutions case while hiding behind Rule 403 "Exclusion of Relevant Evidence on Grounds of Prejudice, Confusion,

or Waste of Time"

The Grace mine is a great example of how a mining company will say anything to trick small town people in to being for a mine. In a town like that well paying jobs will convince otherwise low income people. Sadly the Revett Mining company has now convinced the same people to open a mine that will destroy an extremely sensitive wilderness area that brings Libby its beauty. It is sad that the people did not learn a lesson from a tragic event such as this.
