The 18th Annual Derrick Bell Lecture on Race in American Society

William M. Carter, Jr., dean and professor of law at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, presented, "The Thirteenth Amendment, the Legacies of Slavery, and the Promises of Freedom."

The event opened with remarks from Trevor Morrison, dean of the Law School; John Sexton, president of NYU; Janet Dewart Bell, Derrick Bell's widow; and Randy Hertz, vice dean at NYU Law.
