"Welcome to New Orleans" is a 58 minute documentary about the city of New Orleans during the first year after Katrina. This film depicts the violence and racism in the impoverished American South. This is a story about the bottom-side of United States--a society that has been left to fend for itself. But more importantly, this film is about hope, in the face of overwhelming adversity.
"Welcome to New Orleans" depicts the ravaged city through the eyes of Malik Rahim, a 58-year-old former member of the Black Panthers, who stayed during and after Hurricane Katrina, in order to help residents. He has become a local hero, as he has built up his grassroots organization, Common Ground Collective, over the past two years. Common Ground has served over 170,000 residents with the help of over 12,000 volunteers, who have traveled from all 50 states and 40 different countries.
But there is still plenty of work to be done. To find out more information, or to make a donation, please visit our site, www.commongroundrelief.org. Thank you.

"He just worked for these suckers, and didn't do nothing to help change the conditions."

Who do you think the suckers are he is referring too?

And what is wrong with good hard work to get you ahead in life?

Be it hard work at an education or just plain hard work at a job paying the bills. there is nothing wrong with work and there sure as hell is something wrong with the way he is thinking by suggesting the alternative.

  • think that church guy got a few bolts rattling around in his head..."this is a good thing.." 2.02. good for the real estate developers, people who want to bleed the south dry.

  • Religious morons.

  • @pettyofficerramsey You are complying with the unfair state, we must overthrow the government so our rights are reinstored again. When you pay taxes you are justifying this fascist state that is killing millions of people worldwide everyday.

  • @goyim1999 You have no humanity.

  • @scratchaholiks He is a pastor who is called by God to declare the kingdom of God, not pick sides with something as ridiculous as race. Of course the pastor wants the people to WIN, but he knows to put his trust, not in blacks saving themselves, but in God saving them. God is a God of all people. In the end, He is the one whom the pastor will have to give an account to, not people.

  • @n8dawg360 And apparently all YOU do is complain about someone else who is complaining. I see a dead end here...endless cycle of complaining, which is completely ineffective.

  • @pettyofficerramsey Al Capone was a wealthy gangster who thrived during one of the most violent times in American history, i don't think you can compare the two

  • I don't believe 10% of what that guy says. Who does he think he's kidding?

  • they were spraying fungus. practice anthrax.

  • @pettyofficerramsey I think this guy has a good heart though and the F.B.I. did kill off all the Black leaders and stomp out the Black Panthers. Resulting in the birth of The Crips the later the Bloods.

  • Oh and just a little foot note in regards to his good deeds.

He was in prison for being in a shoot out with the police. and a member of the black panthers.

and is watched closely by the FBI.

Al Capone (yes the mobster) was popular with the poor during the great depression because he would open soup kitchens to feed the poor.

not because he was a great guy.

It was because he was trying to win the popularity of the poor in order to make it look like he had just cause for his actions
