  • For all its complexities, I recall Evans saying to his brother, that he always tried to keep the improv in its simpler foundational form in the melodic and rhythmic structure. He never wished to carry it beyond the point where, "you don't know what you are doing any more". This was the big mistake of young players, he thought. Evans always turned away from pure untethered abstraction....just as Picasso did. He takes you out there...but he always returns back home.

  • Check the bass harmonics at 47 secs.....just lovely...a searching melody...thanx for posting this...I LOVE U TUBE.....

  • @followthefleet1 This is from montreaux 2 montreaux one has a picture of the castle on the lake then there was montreaux 3 frank zappa and the mothers were at the best place around some stupid with a flair gun burned it down to the ground smoke on the water [ bill evans hated rock music]

  • @followthefleet1

It feel perplex when it's said in methods that students have to get accustomed with always further dissonances when practicizing scales on chords, etc., as everyone, musician or not, can instantly say that Bill sounds good, apart from any hear training. (It's obvious that we can't say that of all contemporary jazz musicians) Isn't that pointless ? Not sure that it's relevant with your comment but it's how I understood it through my personnal thoughts of the moment.

  • almost as good as the version that susanna hoffs sings at the end of austin powers! just kidding!
