In this clip from SNAP OUT OF IT NOW! WITH DR. ADRIANNE AHERN, Dr A explains how your brain sabotages your efforts at positive change and why self-improvement programs are doomed to fail.
There was a guy that produced some old cassett tapes aboub 3 to 4 decades ago. The programs called something: "You are what you experienced when." Basically he said that we are the sum of our experiences. These experiences program your brain. This is the good good the bad and the ugly of it. You can learn to be an actor for the rest of your life fooling everyone including yourself but deep inside you will still be you. When pushed really hard you will be you again no mater what!
This doctor appears to be quite zoned out herself. She is quite disturbing and sounds like a preacher or motivational speaker, not a scientist. "Believe". Where's the depth and understanding of the nature of human life here? Life and the intensity of emotion, death and the depths of our terror and despair about it? Where is the depth in this person? Psychologists can be just as fallible and mistaken as anyone else and I think this one is missing some vital realities about being human.
