Dusty Springfield, backed by Ron "Escalade" Piscina, sang the theme song written by Glen A. Larson and Stu Phillips, which was used in the opening and closing credits for the Wine, Women & War and The Solid Gold Kidnapping telefilms. The song was also used in the promotion of the series, but when the weekly series began the song was replaced by the instrumental theme. This was by Oliver Nelson. The first regular episode, "Population Zero," introduced a new element to the opening sequence: a voiceover of Oscar Goldman stating the rationale behind creating a bionic man. The first season narration was shorter than that used in the second and subsequent seasons.

The Six Million Dollar Man is an American television series about a former astronaut with bionic implants working for the OSI (which was usually referred to as the Office of Scientific Intelligence, the Office of Scientific Investigation or the Office of Strategic Intelligence[1]). The show was based on the novel Cyborg by Martin Caidin, and during pre-production, that was the proposed title of the series.[2] It aired on the ABC network as a regular series from 1974 to 1978, following three television movies aired in 1973. The title role of Steve Austin was played by Lee Majors, who subsequently became a pop culture icon of the 1970s. A spin-off of the show was produced, The Bionic Woman, as well as several television movies featuring both eponymous characters

  • Can I use this piece in a video I am thinking about making for my union local? I would give you full credit of course.

  • @balderdashman you want to use the song only for a video ? this cover is free... you can use... if you credit me, credit the original composer too

  • @STIKS1969 - If I use it, I will get your info plus I would be happy to credit it to the original composer. Damn, I hope that if they reboot this in the form of a theatrical release, it remains true to the flavor of the original series! Your rendition is unbelievably true to the origins.

  • @balderdashman I'm not the original composer... the original composer is Oliver Nelson

  • Gracias por compartir tu cover! Excelente versión y muy buena calidad de audio. Se nota la seriedad en tu trabajo.

  • just finished season one dvd, my 8 year old is going to love this, though he seems more partial to Jamie Sommers.

  • This is excellent! Truly the work of someone who knows & understands the essence of this great, great TV show. The flavor is absolutely spot on! As an aside, I have mint condition action figures of Steve Austin (with the engine), Oscar Goldman (with the exploding briefcase), and two Maskatrons. Am I fanboy? %$#@ yeah!!! Greatest show ever and I treasure those memories from my youth! You have helped rekindle those fond memories.

  • Im watching season one now. the sound effects were not a part of the first pilot movies nor the the next 7 episodes so far. the Robot that John Saxon plays has a fight with Steve in Night of the Robot" or "Day of the Robot" and interestingly enough, when he swings at Steve and misses, you hear the familiar sound effect that will later accompany Steve when he lifts something, but for now, Steve's moves are silent

  • FREAKIN AWESOME DUDE!!! u made my day and grew up with this!!
