Protesters arrested at US Republican convention - 02 Sept 08

Away from the storms around the US Gulf coast, demonstrators have taken to the streets of St Paul, outside the Republican's national convention.

Protesters called for an end to the war in Iraq. Around 100 people were arrested, when a group broke away from the march and clashed with police.

Al Jazeera's Avi Lewis has more.

I want to thank Al Jazeera English for giving an activist a chance to calmly explain their point of view, even if it was only for a few seconds. I hope it's a trend that continues. Usually protests only get media attention when there is some sort of violence. It would be nice to actually talk about the public policies the protestors are trying to comment on.

ever stop to think on what a "right" is? it's an allowance; something that they won't lock you up or kill you over. freedom is only a concept in the "free worlds." you have *freedom* to do *certain* things, and they wont punish you. what a joke. i understand that violent protest is usually not the way to go, or at the least should be better targeted, but these are just frustrated people looking for freedom. i'd do what it took as well, even if i didn't know what it was.
