Baritone Christian Tatonetti
Piano Graeme Wilkinson
Graeme Wilkinson, Christian Tatonetti, and very special guest, Victoria Composer Sylvia Rickard, on Wednesday, August 18/10.
Baritone, Christian Tatonetti, will join Graeme for some Renaissance/Baroque songs & arias. Christian, who originally hails from Québec, is a versatile musician and a long-time resident of Salt Spring Island. He recently migrated to Victoria to study Voice with the illustrious Soprano, Nancy Argenta, at the Conservatory of Music and to sing in the Chorus of the Pacific Opera.
The featured work on the programme will be the performance of a new comic piece by noted Victoria-based Canadian Composer, Sylvia Rickard. The piece, entitled Belle-Mère, was originally composed in the 1990′s on a poem by Claude Treil and revised in 2009.
Graeme Wilkinson is a classically trained amateur pianist and undertook his first serious instruction in music at UBC in the 1970s, although he was not a Music Major at the time. Further studies in Switzerland included courses at the Conservatories of Neuchâtel and Lausanne.
Graeme furthered his musical education at the Vancouver Academy of Music and obtained an Associateship Diploma in Piano Performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music, Toronto.
In 1979, he was employed by CP Air (later Canadian Airlines, now Air Canada) and has remained with the company until the present time.
In 1999, Graeme took his musical avocation a step further and competed in the first Van Cliburn International Piano Competition for Outstanding Amateurs in Fort Worth, Texas.
Since that time, he has been a regular on the International Piano Amateur circuit, performing in competitions and workshops in Paris, Berlin, Czech Republic, Colorado Springs, Washington D.C., Boston, and Fort Worth where he remains a regular participant at the Piano Texas International Academy & Festival.
Graeme has resided in Montreal since1989, where he obtained a Bachelor of Music degree at l'Université du Québec à Montréal.
During the past eight years, Graeme has been increasingly active as a chorister in Montreal, singing Bass with the Ensemble Vocal and le Choeur de l'Université du Québec à Montréal. In addition to numerous concerts in and around their home base, the Choir has performed at Carnegie Hall, New York City in 2005 and 2007 with a return engagement scheduled for the 2010-11 season. Graeme has also sung with the Chorus of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and the Concordia University Chamber Choir.
Graeme continued on to Concordia University in Montreal last year to pursue graduate studies in music. He continues to maintain a home (and a piano!) on Salt Spring Island.
He Sing very beautifully.
Not many can sing such songs in this present day and age. As a young person I offer him my congratulations on his lively performance.
