  • @dasburzum karate vs any style .this is not question what style but about fighter.if u are on the level of bruce lee you can use one punch be it karate, taichi, boxing or whatever and still knock out people, but if u are beginner no style cant be effective.so all depends on the level u are.leave the styles and see the fighters:)

  • @ArcaneSunset too bad that shotokan doesnt have practical bunkai.take a look on what kanazawa, tanaka, yahara, kase, nakayama, nishiyama etc show us bunkai.defenses against oi tsuki!!!thats it!nothing else. The bunkai of okinawa styles are a different story.shotokan is the shit of karate.

  • Kihon = training consisting of repeating techniques over and over again

  • @acerwk ... dude, those are either kihon or kumite, not bunkai.

    Kumite = mock fights

    Kihon =

Bunkai = Excerpts from a kata with one or more partners showing the applications for every move

You get examples for drills against sword strikes in Heian Sandan Bunkai, against grabbing techniques in Heian Yodan and Sandan Bunkai. Heian Godan can prove efficient even against takedowns. Defenses against kicks are featured almost in any decent bunkai. That's a fact that you're just not accepting.

  • @ArcaneSunset Great for you to add drills FROM OTHER STYLES but sorry it is not.shotokan you like it or not.and btw take a look on shotokan bunkai kanazawa, tanaka, nishiyama, nakayama.there are many videos here.you see what they show?defenses against oi tsuki!!!thats shotokan bunkai.just shit!

  • @acerwk that's where your ignorance about Shotokan is showing. I don't think that it lacks technique. When I practised, we had drills against elbow strikes, sword strikes, grabbing techniques, all type of kicks and so on. Look at the bunkais for katas, even the basic ones can prove your statement wrong. Either you've gone to a bad dojo or you've done just the yellow belt and got fed up. If it's the latter, then you shouldn't talk like you know what you're saying.

  • @ArcaneSunset no cool techniques.practical techniques!and not only oi tsuki/gyaku tsuki.im sorry but shotokan its just a gay dance...sport for little kids.why dont you try shidokan kyokushin or uechi ryu?

  • @acerwk just because it doesn't have any "cool techniques"? Man, you're really entertaining me with such nonsense!

It's the same thing again: if you think that techniques is what makes a martial art, you've chosen the wrong approach. Maybe Shotokan masters in modern times CHOSE not to use those techniques, because it's disadvantageous for them, never thought about that? Applications of a whole style aren't something you put in a syllabus.

  • @ArcaneSunset 1) shidokan and many other styles of karate expect ofcourse gay shotokan do have takedowns.

2)kyokushin,shidokan,wado and many other styles expect again gay shotokan do have mawashi tsuki in their official syllabus.

3)uechi ryu.kyokushn, shidokan and many other styles expect AGAIN gay shotokan do have low kicks in syllabus and in drills.bottom line karate its great, shotokan is shit!

  • @acerwk

    3) as for the low kicks with the shins, even if I don't talk about the many evasion techniques for legs (look the Tekki Shodan kata for a demonstration), I'm pretty sure there are countless counterattacks to impose your distance on your opponent BEFORE he even gets that close. Karate it's not Muay Thai and it's not Judo, even if there are a few techniques ment to trip your opponent over and ground-and-pund him at ease.

  • @acerwk Recieved the mail about your reply, but can't find it.

Anyway, about those techniques you're talking about:

    1) Karate is a striking martial art, of course there are no takedowns. That doesn't mean you can't karate-chop anyone trying to come too near yout tummy. Believe me, a karate chop on the neck is not so pretty.

    2) a hook punch is called Mawashi Tsuki in Karate and I believe, even if I'm not so sure, it can be countered with a nice Tate Empi Uchi.
