"Dedicated To The One I Love" Michelle Phillips! This clip is most infinitely dedicated to you especially.

So to give a short listen to a few other artists. I have added a few brief renditions, accountings, what have you.. from others who did the song. So please do enjoy the short music clips that have been posted along with the full length Michelle Phillips performance.

Turtlenecks, WOODSTOCK hippie denim anything, striped jeans. Shirt tails out. Oh yea a note Wikipedia says its spelled POLKA. so with that OK then polka dot ties, polka dot everything.60s Yeap! Well well well.. I think Poka fits? but who is one to argue with Wikipedia? WTFE ...onward

Michelle you really did perform this song the way it was intended to be. For sure many took a shot, but you hit the mark. Michelle brings towering compassion to the song.No heart could ever deny Michelle owns it!

Laura Nyro , Bitty Mclean,The Temprees,Linda Ronstadt, The Shirelles gave it a try, some better then others. But The winner is Michelle!

"Dedicated to the One I Love" is the name of a song written by Ralph Bass and Lowman Pauling. Bass and Pauling were members of The "5" Royales, the group that recorded the original version of this song. A version by The Shirelles was a minor hit for them in 1961. The "5" Royales saw a re-release of their own version chart at #81 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1961. Later that year, The Shirelles re-released their version and watched it rocket up the chart to #3.
A subsequent and more famous remake by The Mamas & the Papas released on the Dunhill label went to #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1967. Lead singer on the Mamas & the Papas version was Michelle Phillips. It was the first time Phillips was given the lead over Mama Cass Elliott in any of their songs. In 1972, The Temprees placed their version on the Hot 100 at #93. Bernadette Peters recorded a Hot 100 hit version in 1981, reaching #65.
One other notable version was Bitty McLean's reggae remake from 1994, which reached #6 on the UK Singles Chart.

In 1996, Linda Ronstadt recorded "Dedicated to the One I Love" and made it the title song of her album released that year which featured oldies redone as lullabies. There is also a version by Tanya Stephens on her 1998 album "Ruff Rider" and by Holly Cole on her 2000 album "Romantically Helpless".

In DTV Disney the Mamas and the Papas' version was set to Walt's 16th film Sleeping Beauty (1959 film).
In 2005, the song was covered by the Final 10 of the second season of New Zealand Idol.

  • Total babe. Found cool Mama's and Papa's stuff on a hysterical website called noveltyjoes.

  • Thanks for this fine video and the comparisons with other artists.

However, there is no comparison. The Mamas & The Papas probably

remain America's greatest vocal group, even after 44 years.

  • looks like shes stoned
