I'm not an expert but today, searching for different versions of this prelude as I started to study it yesterday (17 years since I last played piano :\ ), I noticed that almost everybody play it somewhat fast. I must say I prefer it slow as it is here (but yes, there might be a little too much rubato), because I don't think it ruins the melody. I feel this prelude is really paced on a melancholic heartbeat and has something odd and obscure in it, ermetic, distant, misterious in a way.

This performance sounds dead to me. The melody is lost.

Chopin - Chopin= this.
Thanks for uploading, though.

I agree with you 100%

I know it's lento assai but this is really too stretched. I think Rubinstein's version is much better.

demasiado rubateado... se pierde el ritmo.

@yesplease91 I completely disagree. This piece is assai lento, and it is obviously meant to be played in a very somber, sad, emotional tone (much like a lot of Chopin's music). I think this is probably the best interpretation of this piece that i have heard. Besides, Chopin never wanted his pieces to be played exactly the way they were originally written/played anyways which is also one of the basic elements of the romantic period.

very moving interpretation
you don't have to cope with it... it's personal
@ pOrel : your comment is awful... you don't know what you're talking about...and I guess your comment hides something about you... Respect !
I like the tempo, but over use of Rubato. Too much Rubato, just because its slow that doesn't shout rubato every measure.
