I must have an old version, because I'm having the same problem someone below is having. I use medium guage strings, and its hard to guess and check in a live situation to get the tension right, and I twice a week at my church so it's quite inconvenient because often times I get a buzz that's unfixable during a song as I'm a lone acoustic guitarist. Hope the new version depicted here is better.

I have a question, will the Newport work as a partial capo as well (i.e. capoing 4 or 5 strings only)? Reading some reviews, it seems like it can, but I wasn't sure of the model. I know quick-release models like the Nashville work, but I know some models with the Shubb design don't work at all.

There are Partial versions of the G7th Newport Gottfried.

The 6 string version will find the centre of the neck and clamp all of the strings

Great idea...but I find that my Newport will not work like the video...if there is enough pressure to lock down the capo, then the knob will NOT turn any more. And if you leave enough slack to allow the know to actually turn, then it will not turn enough to lock down! The only way to get mine to work is if you "guess" the right pressure to begin with, dial it in, then lock it down!
