The last boss of Whisperwind Cove is Deathgaze. Grraaaahhhh! Sounds a bit like Chupon, maybe they are related?

Fun at side, this boss is not only heavy, I had to reset after it because there were forced EXP floors on the way from Phantom Train to here (2 Revenants, a Vampire and a rematch with Astos for a total of 3946 EXP), which cannot be skipped in any way (they are randomly on all previous floors, I was just lucky they were not prior to the other bosses already which would have screwed those over as well). This effectively means I keep everything up to those floors, though.

For Deathgaze: harsh. I may actually go Graaaahhhh! as well, or would if I didn't have so many spare Tonics I found on my way here. Giant's Tonic adds 200 to Max HP, Protect Speed and Strength Drinks add some to their respective stat, but only for duration of the battle. Still, as I was resetting anyway and those things are all buyable in the Oasis Shop, cheap even, so there was not much too worry. Deathgaze uses only a few attacks, the most deadly being his melee attack which kills anyone without the given buffs far too easily, as well as Death and Kill, which usually miss. However, he also knows Dispel, which works unlike most other Final Fantasys versions here. Dispel does NOT remove buffs, like Blink or Saber, but it removes special resistances that f.e. Ribbon and Protect Ring give, for this special battle of meaning is the Death Resistance. That sayd, a dispelled character will be very suspectible to both Death and Kill because of the low levels, but unless that is used on the respective character there is no difference.

As for Healing, I decided to put the Rune Staff Ultros left behind to good use, as with all the buffs I gave my Warriors they could withstand Death Gaze more or less easily. After that, it was merele a matter of chipping all those HP away, which took quite long yet because Death Gaze also has a high defense.

You might ask why I do not use statuses this time. Well, Death Gaze is not immune to them, just like the guys before him. However, he has the same treat as Rubicante did: A so high MDef that statuses cannot seem to hit.

Spoils I wasn't able to keep: Best Swords around.. sadly. Lightbringer as a drop and Ultima Weapon in a chest. Damn I so want those :(

  • Well, given I had to reset after Omega, Shinryu, Deathgaze and, I am obviously missing some great swords. Other then that, equipment has a rather low effect at that time anyway, given there are no MDef boosts to go with and magic attacks being the main problem. Only having 4 Ribbons is interesting, which is a rather easy accomplishment.

  • You've got a lot of great stuff, I see. How far is your equipment from desired by the time you get to the final boss?
