"Nel genere musicale dell'oratorio,Alessandro Scarlatti si deve considerare una tra le personalita' piu' illustri di tutta la storia della musica.Se ripercorriamo la parabola creativa di Alessandro Scarlatti in questo "genere",attraverso una profonda analisi dei suoi numerosi oratori,possiamo arrivare alla convinzione che il dolore di Maria Vergine_l'ultimo da lui composto,se escludiamo la rielaborazione del testo del bellissimo Per la Passione di Nostro Signore Gesu' Cristo,ovvero La Colpa,il Pentimento e La Grazia del 1708,nella versione latina del 1725,che fu anche l'anno della morte-costituisce il raggiungimento della sua piena maturita' artistica e creativa"
