"It's not just food and supplies that are being passed to the 33 Chilean miners trapped half a mile underground since August 5, 2010. Esteban Rojas has sent a message above-ground asking for his sweetheart Jessica Ganiez's hand in marriage through the grapefruit sized hole.
Although Ganiez gave an enthusiastic response, it may be Christmas before the lovers can give their vows. The two have been legally married for 25 years, raised three children and are also grandparents., but they never got a big church wedding, which is customary in Chile.
Ganiez told London's Daily Mirror newspaper, "I have tried to hint at it many times, but it never happened. He always said getting married is a once-in-a-lifetime thing, and he would ask me when the time was best. Obviously, what has happened made him do it.""
