This is an unusual take on the classic Miles Davis tune. I am singing or "scatting" along the lines that I am playing on the guitar. That is a very good way to play more melodic lines. In addition it really helps to internalise the sounds. Joe Pass once said "if you can't sing it, it's probably not a good line. " This is just an example, I know I have a terrible singing voice and realize it may sound a bit or even totally moronic for those ignoring its didactical purpose :) But it works. Try it. You should be able to sing every note you play while improvising. But only while studying :)

  • Good Dick,Oscar Peterson did this so much the guy couldn't stop even if you fired a canon beside him. And Keith Jarret couldn't stop either , although a brilliant pianist he constantly sang out of tune, thats why I don't listen to him anymore it hurts my ears, greets Vic.

  • Yeah, Keith Jarrett is always moanin' and groanin'. He should make a blues album :)

  • Note the Woody Woodpecker question and answer motif at 1.15.

  • did no one else notice his boner??

  • Nice!

  • More than being able to sing every note you play, you should be able to play every note you sing. It should start with the vocal. Try Solfeggi first at a slow tempo. This helps marry both sides of the brain even further. Also, it'll help develop your scat by forcing you to use more vowels. Your vocals, as a rule of thumb, should be molded off of the sound of a horn. So don't be afraid to go falsetto either. At some point the brain will be totally in control and your fingers will follow.

  • Gaaf gespeeld Dick,en wat een mooie gibson, mijn compliment,Kees Nipius
