Q612/ A746 Meet At Opelika, Al

After getting beat by Q612 to my location and waiting for the train to pass, I set up to get a long shot of it and A746 meeting at Opelika. A friendly Hi-Rail followed the train north fromMaconsiding and left the tracks at the grade crossing just north of where I was set up.

Once getting a clear signal to open the line south, A746 makes ease of the grade south out of town.

An interesting side note: The name Opelika is from the Muskogee indian language that translates to "Large Swamp". When in the area at the base of the hill in this shot, it's quite evident that the infrastructure built in years past was built to manage drainage that likely involved a large 'swamp' around this area. The track profile clearly shows how the town much of a depression the town was built in.

Thanks and yet there are many dips on this line once is comes up from the clastal flats and begins to tackle the extreme southern portions of the Appalachain Chain.

Nice catch, buddy! That maintainer was just following the train close to get off at the next crossing. They probabley had a active block permit anyways! Nice standard cab on the local there and look's like they had a full crew! Nice K5LA as well!
