This one rambles a bit.

I spend a little time every month going thru the past month's newspapers and I cut out articles for my classrooms. I stumbled across a double obituary for two of my favorite actors - Patrick McGoohan and Ricardo Montalban.
And in another paper I found an obituary of a different sort - the demise of my beloved laserdisc player. The last company still making the players has decided to cease production.

Thanks for watching!

-Jason

PS - I was checking my memories at the Wikipedia page for The Prisoner:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Prisoner
and I noticed that they are not only remaking the show, but they've already finished filming it and the remake will air on American TV on the AMC network this year. Hmmm......

  • Somewhere in the early 80 there was RCA disc player but wasn't laser it had a record like groove on the disc. we had to fix one because the children kept replaying the scene and bend the styles head. which is like opening a timepiece also you never seen the disc.

  • @akush55 yeah - I remember that. Someone in my neighborhood had one. I think it was called OmniVision.

  • I used to rent LD(s) when I was living in Japan. Owned about 10 discs plus a player. Started collecting them again (eBay) and just recently purchased another player (Pioneer cld2400). I didn't buy many back then due to cost...today I can afford to buy Criterion LD(s), Silent Classics on LD and Univ Signature Collection discs.

  • yeah - I need to go thru my collection in storage now that I'm back in the States and see what might be worth selling on eBay - and see if my old player is still working after 5 years of non-operation

  • LD(s) are like vinyl LP(s)...most (95%) have no value...worth about 1 to 3 dollars. Some, do hold their value quite well. Check the eBay "closing" auction prices. LD(s) are slow movers on eBay..don't begin a listing at $1 unless you want to sell it for that. There are guides on eBay that tell you how to sell LD(s).

  • thanks for the info!

  • I saw for the first time laserdiscs at a garage sale..the only thing that was missing was the player, but i thought at that time that they were what came between de discs and the cds,i was fascinated by it.thanks jason now i know what a laserdisc really is.

  • sweet, i'm gonna go dig up my laserdisc player!

  • are you asking me or Schoolhouse Techno? I can't tell with the YT comment set-up...

I don't know what model player I have - I'm pretty sure they are both Pioneer players, but they've been in storage these past 5 years and I've forgotten.
