A Young Apprenticeship in Engineering has helped Sam Waters, 15, realise he has a natural talent and the ability to excel. He is a pupil at Penrice Community College, St Austell, studies his apprenticeship at Cornwall College, St Austell and has a work placement at Teddington Appliance Controls, St Austell. Since starting the course he has completed Engineering Young Apprentices GCSE Double Award and Performing Engineering Operations NVQ Level 2. During his work placement he has worked on a variety of tasks and used specialist equipment. He has developed the ability to use his own initiative, take orders and follow instruction. He has grown in confidence and been able to offer his own ideas about product design. Sam's experiences have helped him recognise his own talent and motivated him to work hard at school so he can achieve the grades necessary to take a degree in engineering. His interest and commitment have made him a valued member of the Teddinton team and managers say he is a pleasure to work with, they feel fortunate to have been able to offer him work experience and believe he has the ability to accomplish anything he sets his mind to.
