18 year old Wang Chen is hoping to SOAR high above his rivals at the Beijing Olympics.

He captured the 2007 World Youth Championship in the High Jump.
And now he is counting on home field advantage -- and the roar of the crowd -- to help him soar.

Wang knows he is more expressive than his older rivals. He he loves to fire up the fans because he feeds off their energy. But even if they are not cheering, he knows his coach is with him -- in his head -- as he visualizes his approach, takeoff and clearance.


Wang fell in love with the sport when he was 12 and growing taller. He says he competes against himself -- always trying to beat his own record. He also tries to keep his energy level high whether practicing or competing. And one way is by listening to his favorite Canto-pop music from Hong Kong.
