The Business of Going Green
March 20, 2008 at the National Constitution Center.
This contains highlights of Newt Gingrich.

In 2008, Newt Gingrich was featured at a green conference where he stated we need to act to stop global warming, and if you don't care about global warming you should not be allowed to hold public office, that people on the right have been anti-environment, and that he favors sweeping changes to deal with global warming that includes using tax policy and price fixing.

Gingrich said these changes would include huge subsidies and unfunded tax breaks to help keep green companies in business in the U.S. Although he didn't mention Solyndra by name, he specifically mentioned that it was 'really stupid' that we ended such a program to help solar panel companies get large projects in the U.S.

  • What Newt said has nothing to do with Solyndra. Newt talks about tax-credit for the entire Solar-panel sector, so that they can manufacture in the US, rather than in China. In the case of Solyndra, the White House was directing the Treasury to pinpoint loan assistance to a "favourite" firm. This is what is called "FAVOURITISM". The case of Gibson Guitar is similar where other firms who are "favoured" and have the same wood procurement proceedures are allegedly relieved of investigations. SHAME.

  • @StudentOf10, Thanks for the detailed info. Yes, the favoratism Solyndra received by the current administration had a terrible outcome.

However, Solyndra would have been a major beneficiary of Gingrich's proposed extension or creation of a special tax credit for solar panel manufacturers, so what he said does have to do with them.

  • Newt Crunchwich will be the next Resident of the United States.

  • @StudentOf10 You see, Newt Gingrich – who previously warned of the dangers of the Patriot Act - now wants it expanded.

He wants amnesty, too – to keep American citizens footing the bill for government services for illegal immigrants.

The Labour Charter of 1927, the Grand Council of Fascism, article 7: The corporative State considers private initiative, in the field of production, as the most efficient and useful instrument of the Nation, article 9: State intervention in economic production may take place only where private initiative is lacking or is insufficient, or when are at stakes the political interest of the State. This intervention may take the form of control, encouragement or direct management.
