pretty decent commander who although didn't have much combat experience (along with many commanders who fought in the civil war) he still at least in my view was a able commander.

@civilwar6165 affect the outcome of the battle. So McDowell was fighting with one hand behind his back! He committed all of his forces and on the verge of his victory Jackson sprung and brought up his troops and completely routed McDowell's tired and worn out troops that had almost broke the Rebel line.
