Wrong title. It was RIDER ERROR. Loose saddle and flag in horse's face as he is falling off sideways??? I would panic if I was the horse too...
-
I wouldn't call that 'throw', throw implies intention. I think the horse spooked because the rider lost balance, dropped the flag on his face and then accidentally pulled the reins which made him rear and then the rider fell off. Loose saddle seems to be the original cause.

~What'th, -where's RoyRogers & Trigger when you need'em..! Modern horse-saddles apparently need to come with handle-bars; --hope the beautiful horse and the rider are doing fine now..!!
-
that is not the same horse as the one with the bike, the other one was much paler in color

Loose saddle will get them every time. I agree with urashopper.

I'm glad that everyone sees that the horse wasn't at fault...I notice sometimes that a lot of people always say that the horse was stupid, wild, uptight, rebellious, disobedient, all the above.
-
Totally rider error. That saddle was not even close to being on tight. The horse reacted as most horses would after being blinded by a flag and having his reins yanked. In hindsight, the rider SHOULD HAVE dismounted when the saddle started to slip, readjusted the saddle/cinch and remounted. Safety first, ALWAYS. It would have been much better for him to come out of the parade formation & then rejoin versus the public seeing this and blaming the horse.

Wow, the comments are so serious and analytical re: who is to blame, etc. Don't horse riders and lovers have any sense of just plain interest in looking at the mishap? When you ride, things happen! Lighten up.

Absolutely correct, FrancesBoreland!! My husband and I said the very same thing; NOT the horse's fault. That saddle was ridiculously loose, the flag covered that horse's face, and the rider did pull on the reins most likely in an effort to 'hold' on, which most definitely would cause the horse to rear. His head was being pulled backwards!

out of 300 horses only one accident- id say that's pretty good.

accidents happen. its a horse in a scary situation. we all do what we can to ensure everyone's safety during the parade- there is borium on the shoes so they are not slippery.
Thanks! Very good observations!
