Clara acted in 160 movies during her career, as a big star of the silents, then later as an extra after her fall. She had become passé and aged matronly and faced several tragedies along the years until her death in 1960 at the actor's home in Woodland Hills near LA.
I never heard of this actress but as usual, I am happy that Baz made the tribute. I love learning about all of the forgotten stars esp.the Silent ones.
Dear Basil, Clara Kimball Young, "The First Lady of the Screen" polled ahead of Mary Pickford in 1914 as the most popular female star in America, and was the first star to have her name in lights on Broadway. She was one of the great ones! Thank You for remembering. Fondly, V.
Very nice job. Looks like she played quite a host of roles too. Usually people are depicted as being wealthy. We can get so lost in performances, identifying with characters, as if we know them, or is it just me that does that.
I enjoyed your beautiful tribute!

Most of us, now most likely, have only seen Clara Kimball Young as the aristocratic matron in "Ants in the Pantry" with The Three Stooges.

I read she was a very shrewed business woman
