Very interesting post, many thanks, though was hoping for some of the classic 70's jingles - John Paul, Big T especially - and their famous one 'Downtown first with stereo', in fact all the nostalgic ones based on the Downtown song by Tony Hatch. From the good times before Downtown lost it's identiy and became DTR.
Oh you want to know how Downtown Radio got it's name when it actually broadcast from Newtownards, some 11 miles from Belfast? Well it was broadcast from a (County) Down Town.

I remember these jingles, do you have the daybreak jingle and the close down jingle?

Awww ... I remember listening to DTR on their first day of transmission, via an earpiece connected to my radio in my French class at school.
My personal favourite jingle had the lyric "So much more music & the friendliest people here on 293 - Downtown ..." with the melody being Petula Clarke's "Downtown"
Innocent times!
Great post. I remember these jingles from when I was a kid. They would have been from around 1986, just after Downtown extended its coverage. I also have a set of the later DTRFM jingles (1987-1990) and a set of the Downtown jingles just prior to these if you would like a copy.
