The song was written about a real person that Doug and Rodney Dillard grew up with in Missouri. The names were changed to protect the innocent. Rodney tells the story during his shows and expands the story in settings called Mayberry Values. Go see them if you ever get the chance. It's well worth the time and money.

It makes me sad to see that there aren't any tv shows like this in America anymore. What happen to the gas stations where you pulled up and they came up to your car and checked your oil, filled up your car with gas, and wiped your windshield. Why can't you trust anyone anymore, used to you trusted the local clothing store, but now we pay money to big corporate businesses like Walmart. WHAT'S HAPPENED TO US???

Greed is what happened to us. Both corporate greed and the personal greed that leads customers to Walmart (in order to save 5¢) and away from local stores with good customer service. "I'll get mine" happened to us, both from the top and from the bottom.
