For many kids growing up in the UK, there would be these summer annuals almost always set in the second world war with stories in a stark , brutal un glamorous contrast to the colourful shiny, pc american comics we also bought. These influences from the British War Comics like commando have influenced practically every great UK Comic artist in some way.
