Devdas was made in 1935 by New Theaters (calcutta) an all time classic directe by p.c.barua starring k.l.saigal(as devdas),jamuna (as parvati),nemo,k.c.dey,raj kumari (as chandra) asgar husain shore (as chunilal),pahari sanyal,nemo & p.c.barua,kedar sharma (as munim). music was directed by timir baran & photography was done by bimal roy. This movie shot saigal to fame.

There have been three noteable versions of film Devdas. First being of Barua's starring K.L.Saigal & Jamuna. The second was Bimal Roy's all time great- starring Dilip Kumar, Vaijyanti Mala & Suuchitra Sen and finally of Sanjay Leela Bhansali; which shoud have been named as DAVID-DAS. As the spirit of Sarat Chandra Chaterjee was completely missing.

Can one say that Pahari Sanyal was an inspiration for K. L. Saigal? A song of Pahari Sanyal was much like one I thought Saigal sang.
